Under saddle, with either English or Western leathers, in harness, in the show ring or just out on the trail, these versatile little powerhouses are a delight to own. Truly a people horse.Stallions, geldings, mares, yearlings, and weanlings -- come visit our farm and see if one of these beauties aren't just the perfect horse for your interests.
A quiet, happy disposition, compact, sturdy build and a willingness to work are all characteristics of the Haflinger breed. A true mountain horse originating in the Tyrolean mountains of Austria, the breed takes its name from the small village of Hafling near Meran, Italy. A cross between an Arabian stallion and a native mountain mare resulted in the foundation stallion 249 FOLIE in 1874.The Haflinger ranges in size from 50 to 59 inches and weighs between 800 and 1300 pounds. Colors range from light blond to a dark or even chocolate chestnut, sometimes with dappling. The manes and tails range from white to flaxen.
The compact size of the Haflinger makes them a superb choice for both children and adults. The well-sprung ribs and deep barrel give one the feeling of riding a larger sized animal yet the short distance to the ground makes mounting easier and falls less troubling to children and elderly riders. The Haflinger is an extremely easy keeper requiring remarkably little food to maintain good flesh and energy. Their strong bones and hooves easily withstand rigorous conditions and workloads. They are a long-lived breed living into their late thirties and reproducing into their twenties.
Their personable, willing nature make them remarkably easy to train and they are often happier in the company of people than with other Haflingers.
The Haflinger's superb good looks and versatility make him a star in the show ring. He is a flashy yet well-mannered equine suitable to both draft or fine harness competition. He is an excellent performance animal suitable for English or Western Pleasure, Trail classes, Dressage, Jumping and Gymkana. His intelligence and endurance make him a candidate for competitive driving events; while his quiet, calm nature makes him unsurpassed in parades. You name it, the Haflinger can do it!
The Haflinger is a remarkable family pet that all ages and abilities can enjoy. He steps out and is a safe and reliable trail animal. Children seem attracted to the Haflinger's long mane and friendly face. His quiet disposition makes him a perfect choice for lead line and handicapped riders. There is really no limit to what a Haflinger can do!
